Why I've Fallen Out of Love With Instagram

In a bid to not talk about these jeans a second day in a row, I thought I'd talk about something else I love, or have loved... Instagram.

I loved Instagram, I still love it but for the past few months I've been feeling so overwhelmed with it. I'm not sure if overwhelmed is the right word but I just haven't been enjoying it as much as I used to, I would happily sit on Instagram for hours scrolling through, commenting, liking and uploading photos but recently I just haven't. Now that themes have become so important and it's more of a numbers game it sort of takes the fun out of it. Don't get me wrong I love creating themes and organising my photos, for some reason I find it quite therapeutic but there's nothing more disheartening than taking the time to create content, edit, link, caption and hashtag only to find hours later your photo wasn't so popular. I know it isn't supposed to be a popularity game and it's meant to be about what you love and all the rest but let's be honest, at the back of our minds we all have this great big question of whether what we're doing is good enough.

I think social media is the main reason why so many of us question ourselves. Having said this, I also think social media is the main reason so many of us gain confidence in ourselves! It's important to find the right balance but at the moment I think I've lost it and stopped enjoying it altogether.

In my opinion it's important to try and not compare yourself to others, it's probably one of the most difficult things particularly in the blogging world - I always feel so deflated looking at other Instagram accounts and end up questioning myself over what I'm doing wrong, how can I change, how can I make people like me?! I've tried to take a step back from it all because I believe when you're not enjoying something it's super important to take a break so that when you're ready you come back feeling more inspired. I know I'll fall back in love with Instagram soon, I'm going on holiday next week and I know I'll want to share every moment so I'm hoping to get my mojo back then!

  1. That bomber jacket is so lovely! I understand what you're saying about Instagram, but you just have to not care and enjoy the process! xx

    1. Thanks Hannah, it's such a pretty colour! I couldn't agree more, I think when you stop enjoying something it means it's time to step back for a bit X

  2. I've felt the same about Instagram lately too. I love it, I think I always will, but I don't love it as much as I did. It's getting so competetitve at times and some brands won't work with you unless you have 50k+ followers on there, it's mad! Saying that though social media has been a great way for me to build up my confidence and meet like-minded people too :)

    1. I think there are so many good things about social media but it's easier to dwell on the negatives! I completely agree, it's definitely become much more competitive than it used to which ends up taking out the fun of it, I still love Instagram but I've just decided to step back a bit and post when it feels natural to me - I got so caught up in the idea that I had to be uploading between 1-3 times a day that it just got too much! X

  3. I ask myself the same question all the time. But then I love what I do as a hobby so try not to let it get me down. I wish I had just invested more time in Instagram when I started blogging! I wouldn't worry, your feed is gorgeous and I always aspire to yours :) xx

    1. Look who's talking, blue theme goals! It's inevitable to compare ourselves to one another but I'm hoping this is only a phase and soon I'll be loving Instagram again! X

  4. LOVE the outfit! I agree too I feel so deflated on Instagram sometimes and it genuinely determines what mood I'm in! Really need to stop comparing myself to other bloggers!

    1. Sometimes it's good to just talk about it with other bloggers because more often than not we all feel exactly the same! X

  5. I love this outfit, always keeping it sassy. I have to say I am the opposite with insta at the moment, I'm finding my feet, I am hitting goals and love creating the content and engaging with other bloggers on there. I think I like to look at visuals which sometimes appeals to me just ever so slightly more than twitter (but hell, I kinda love that too!) I'm sure the love will resurface soon!
