Vinyl In The Daytime

Recently I've been dipping in and out of the vinyl trend, one minute I'm all for it and the next I'm not so sure about it and whether it's actually for me. With that said, that doesn't stop me from trying and experimenting with the trend in more ways. It's so easy to see a trend and think "that's not for me" or "I could never pull that off" but I definitely think it's always worth giving something a go. Yes, you could hate it but you could also end up really loving it - so what is there to lose?!

My daytime looks don't tend to stray too far away from high waisted jeans and a jumper tucked in (usually a roll neck) but in a bid to not be too same-y, I've been trying to branch out a little more with what I wear - I've been doing this by layering pieces as well as experimenting with lengths, prints and textures. Vinyl has been one of those trends that at first I just wasn't sure about, I also didn't know whether it would really catch on to be completely honest. Sometimes there are trends that surface almost as if out of nowhere but then disappear even quicker than they appeared initially and that's why I wait a while before thinking about trying a trend myself (unless of course it's something I absolutely adore in which case, I just don't care about whether it's on trend or not!)

When I spotted this vinyl skirt on Nobody's Child I decided I would try styling it myself. I haven't worn a skirt in forever and just generally feel like I don't know how to style skirts anymore but I wore it on a recent trip to Paris and fell in love with it so I wanted to try and make it London appropriate.

As the start of winter is creeping up upon us, the tights dilemma resurfaces. I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a huge fan of tights and when winter rolls around I'll do my very best to avoid them but this skirt is quite short and it's really bloody cold outside so I bit the bullet and bought some tights. I initially tried 10 denier but those just aren't for me - I found them to be too sheer as my thighs are kind of thick which ended up stretching out the tights quite a lot and not giving me the desired effect. So instead I picked up 40 denier which I think are a much better in-between, there's a little bit of skin showing through but my pale legs are still very much concealed and a warmer than they would be without tights.

When it came to toning down my vinyl skirt I opted for a cropped grey roll neck jumper with some gorgeous frill detailing which I love, it reminds me of the roll neck tops I lived in last winter, and threw on a checked longline coat over the top to juxtapose the length of my skirt. I slipped on my current favourite ankle boots which are from New Look and large bag from Dorothy Perkins which fits my laptop, notebooks and more!

    1. Thanks so much Eloise! I think this would even work for an office environment which I never thought I'd say (particularly with a vinyl skirt haha!) X
