LFW Day 1 | Shows and Street Style

Photos taken by Jordane.

I really didn't know what to expect on Day 1 and I was worried about looking silly or feeling out of place - but let's be honest, there's none of that at Somerset House because there are some really strange things about - I wanted to feel somewhat muted so I chose one statement piece, culottes. These are extreme culottes they're made out of that scuba material which meant their exaggerated shape was practically always on show and they were quite warm too which was a plus! I kept the rest of the look simple with a black turtle neck and my trusty leather jacket, I just feel at ease when I wear it so it was an essential for me. I also thought I'd go for my sturdy black boots with a block heel as I thought I'd cope well in them, but boy was I wrong. With no sensible shoe alternative, come Friday evening my poor feet were asking to be saved.

Day 1 was exciting and the perfect mix between seeing shows and catching the street style at Somerset House.

Jamie Wei Hueng: Fashion Scout

As I mentioned in yesterday's post I missed my first show in the morning so I started the day with Jamie Wei Hueng at Fashion Scout.

In awe of all the fur (I'm hoping faux) from Jamie Wei Hueng's show. What stood out the most for me was how fur was incorporated into these looks. Of course high fashion can sometimes be a little bizarre but I actually think all of these ways are pretty wearable, apart from the first option which looks a little restricting.. I adore the scarf with the belting detail - at last, a scarf that won't blow away with the wind! I also love the addition of some fur to a top, it's strategically placed to help out us girls with a smaller chest as it gives the illusion of more so to speak.

Can we take a moment to appreciate the vibrant red jacket - that could definitely fit into my wardrobe - it's the perfect mix of faux fur with the sturdiness of your typical leather jacket (and I'm pretty sure everybody knows just how much of a fun I am of the leather jacket!) I love the collar, which reminds me of a roll neck and they're set to continue as a huge hit in the coming AW. I keep looking at the jacket and I just can't get over it, it's friggin' beautiful!

Jean-Pierre Braganza: Somerset House

The Jean-Pierre Braganza show had a delayed start, and it wasn't without its drama when someone from the front row (!!) decided he wanted to be part of the finale... needless to say everybody was shocked but the show went on without a hitch and he was left a little red faced by the end of it after not getting the reaction he had hoped for.
Behold, the camel trend is here to stay. I wasn't sure whether I was sick of it or not but it's too early to hate the trend as it looks like it will be coming back in full force! Hm, maybe that's an excuse to finally cave and buy that Missguided coat every other blogger has... I love the camel culottes too, I've become a huge fan of the culotte trend ever since London Fashion Week, it seemed like everybody was wearing them! Stripes are still a hit, and deep reds and purples will be gracing our wardrobes once again. I love it when a warm colour becomes a hit for AW because it means I steer away from black as often as possible. Let's talk about the killer knee high boots, I adore the lace up style knee high's as they just look so fierce on the catwalk and I'm sure they'd look just as fierce on, so I'm thinking that's enough of a reason for me to invest in another pair of knee high boots right? The show was all about accentuating a woman's natural silhouette which can sometimes be lost underneath the baggy jumpers and slouchy knits so this collection was a win for me.

Because the show overran Jordane and I didn't make it to the Paul Costelloe show which was a huge disappointment! We thought about legging it to the Hilton in the hope we'd get in but we didn't know where we were going and rather than ending up lost we called it a day. Jordane was done for the day and I went onto my final two shows.

As the day neared to the end, I headed to Freemasons Hall (not without getting lost on the way of course) once I finally made it and after queuing for ages in the cold the remainder of us still left behind in the queue were told the space was full so unfortunately I didn't get the chance to see the Ashley Isham show but it looked amazing from the photos I saw! The perks of LFW ey. The Ashley Isham shows are always memorable and I was quite excited about seeing it when I got the invite, so I'm sure you can imagine it was disappointing to not get in, but despite this there was something exciting in store before my next show...

...yep, I'm ending this post here because it's already a long'un! But come back tomorrow to see what I got up to for the final show of the day and the end to Day 1.
