The Most Important Aspect to Consider For a Winter Capsule Wardrobe

I did a lot of brainstorming before I made the final decisions on what to include in my capsule wardrobe (this really is all I talk about these days!) I tried to consider what I would need, what I would want to wear and what I would get the most wear out of this month. I have found that layering is of the upmost importance when it comes to creating a winter capsule wardrobe and having enough pieces to mix-and-match is one of the essentials.

With a capsule wardrobe of only 30 pieces - including coats and jackets, footwear, clothing and accessories. My initial thoughts was to include at least one of everything however, when I started making lists and pulling clothes from my wardrobe I realised that everything needs to work together which is why I ended up with a somewhat boring selection. The most fun piece being that mustard midi dress I can't seem to stop wearing!

With that said, making sure everything could work together was harder than I imagined. How do you pick just one scarf to go with three different coats? Major first world problem. After much deliberation I finally went for a camel coloured scarf from Next which I've been able to pair with just about every other piece in my capsule wardrobe - result! The majority of pieces I picked were either monochrome or neutral so I could easily mix and match various pieces as well as incorporate layering.

With that said, I've also managed to make my wardrobe much lighter in colour whilst adding various layers.

Starting with the best item I could have included in my capsule wardrobe: a reversible coat. I know, I know, it sounds crazy but it works! This shearling coat is from Miss Selfridge but it went in to the sale and is no longer available but I have found a blush pink version exclusive to ASOS (here)! I paired it with a Miss Selfridge jumper, another sale purchase I've been wearing loads.

When you don't add various pieces - let''s call it layering the conventional way - adding a scarf and coat is a great way to add warmer layers.

Winter is quite a tricky season to have a capsule wardrobe in my opinion, the majority of the time I want to be living in jumpers and jeans but that's all part of the challenge right?
