3 Things I Love About The Snow and 3 Things I Hate

I wrote this post the last time we were faced with snow in the UK, which crazily was only a couple of weeks ago, but then it stopped snowing and I didn't see the point in sharing this blog post anymore. Instead, I thought I'd save it in the archives until next year... Oh! Hello snow?!  Who'd have thought we'd see snow in again March? I'm sure you've heard this before but I mean, it wouldn't be very British of us if we didn't spend the majority of our time complaining about the weather! A short post for this snowy Saturday, in March.. who'd have thought?!

Things I love...

1. Waking up in Winter Wonderland

There's something quite magical about waking up and peeking through the window to see everything from the ground to rooftops covered in snow. Even just watching the snow fall can be quite mesmerising.

2. The happiness it brings

London can be perceived as a not-so-friendly city day to day, especially during the week when locals battle tourists to get to where they need to be. However whilst snow falls, many people greet each other with smiles as they pass by and even stop for photos! Whilst Maria and I were shooting we wanted to take a picture in the snow together, we saw two guys walking towards us and all we had to say was "excuse me" whilst holding a camera and they instantly knew what we wanted! They responded with "of course!" and happily took a photo of us (despite making them stop their tracks in the snow!)

3. Everybody's talking about it

I think it's fair to say that nothing unites us Brits quite like the British weather. Whether we have a week of snow or a week of blistering heat - we'll be talking about it. I found Instagram captions amusing to read and also enjoyed writing many myself. Not to mention my twitter and Facebook feeds, filled with photos of people and animals in the snow!

Things I hate...

1. The icy conditions that follow

There's nothing that scares me more than the icy paths that follow snow days! Back in December when we had had a cold spell in the UK, I slipped on ice and not only did it seriously hurt but I was also mega embarrassed and tottered home with a wet patch from my bum all the way down to my thigh. I think since then I've been so afraid of slipping, it's probably one of the things that scares me the most about the snow.

2. The big freeze

It needs to be arctic outside for the snow to settle in the first place and this usually means a lack of sun to keep us warm (sadly the snow in the UK doesn't look as picturesque as it does in the mountains). This means layering up and doing your best to keep warm whilst out and about! This potentially includes doing your best Michelin Man impression wrapped in all of the layers. I think I've done a good job of that in these photos, what do you think?

3. Cancelled transport and plans

The snow makes getting from A to B incredibly difficult as the UK isn't equipped for these conditions. Many cancelled flights, trains as well as disruptions mean snow days aren't so fun for those of us who needed to get to places.

  1. Ah I'm not a fan of the icy conditions either, in fact I almost slipped over today and did a little bambi dancing on ice flail around. On another note, loving this outfit, you're jacket looks great! xx
